Overview

 Testcentres.co.uk is an Interface into a powerful new methodology for generating “MCQ assessment test items” (MCQ=Multiple Choice Question) from source documents. Our research has shown that evaluating the quality of MCQ test items is a highly domain and application dependant process. The perceived effectiveness of MCQ test items is highly dependant upon there being a good match between knowledge the objectives of the routine designer and the objectives that guide the actions of the MCQ-Creation system. There is therefore an optional feature that allows users to manipulate the Objectives that the system will use to create MCQ test items. In fact all of the components used by the system are available for Users to manipulate in order to improve the effectiveness of the output.

Advanced Features:

 The MCQ-Creation system implemented at Testcentres.co.uk extracts five structured representations of every source text that is submitted to the site:
  1. A list of Lexical Items (words) Ranked according to frequency
  2. A Grammar (accepted phrase structure) induced by comparing phrase structures within uploaded text with phrase structures within a collection 'Gold Standard' texts
  3. A list Antonym pairs (opposites) ranked according to frequency
  4. A list of Relation types ranked according to frequency
  5. A statement of a Specific Learning Objective that the system has guessed might be in line with the wishes of the MCQ test item designer
The 'Advanced' page, allows users to modify or replace any or all of these extracted features in order to improve the perceived quality of the generated MCQ test items. Often the extracted version is based upon the frequency with which particular words appear but there are other ways of setting up the system and these can be changed on the 'Advanced features' page

 The MCQ test items you create with this system are not yours to use until you have gained written permission from the owners of this site.
